    1. used to emphasize the intensive, energetic nature of some action or the intensity of some feeling
    positively
    simply
    (may be translated by an intensifier specific to the context, or in conjunction with the Russian verb by a stronger English verb).

    there's no way...!
    as if s.o. would (actually) do sth. you've got to be kidding if you think...! (in limited contexts) fat chance! "Я попросил Аркадия привезти мне книги». - «Так он тебе и привезёт! Нашла кого просить!» "I asked Arkady to bring me (he books." "As if he'd actually bring them to you! You sure picked the right person to ask!"
    5. (used with a negated verb) used for emphasis when stating that sth. never occurred, was never completed etc: (equivalents incorporate the negation) (one) never (really (actually)) did...
    (in limited contexts) not once did (one ever).
    Ответа на заявление я так и не получил (Марченко 1). And I never did get a reply to my protest (1a).
    Так (я) за всю войну и не увидел, чтобы подбили самолет (Искандер 6). In fact, not once during the course of the war did I ever see one of these planes put out of action (6a).
    6. used to emphasize that an action takes place in an unobstructed manner
    just
